- Summerfield Johnston Jr. inherited his family's Coca-Cola bottling franchise, Johnston Coca-Cola.
- He grew it into the largest independent Coke bottler by 1991, when the beverage giant's own bottler, Coca-Cola Enterprises, bought the business and tapped Johnson Jr. to run the combined operations.
- Johnston Jr. was CEO until 2001, turning the company around by decentralizing operations and empowering local bottlers. He retired as chairman in 2007.
- Johnston Jr. Plays polo and was inducted into the Museum of Polo Hall of Fame in 2001.
