• Pyotr Aven is a co-owner of Alfa Bank and LetterOne along with Mikhail Fridman, Khan and fellow billionaires Alexei Kuzmichev and Andrei Kosogov.
• Aven and his partners were all sanctioned by the EU and U.K. in February and March 2022; Aven stepped down from LetterOne's board in March.
• He grew up in Moscow, graduated from Moscow State University, and worked at the Institute for Systems Studies at the Soviet Academy of Sciences.
• In 1989 he went to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; two years later he was tapped to be Putin's minister of foreign economic relations.
• Aven was president of Russia's largest privately held bank, Alfa-Bank, which was hit with sanctions in April 2022, from 1994 to 2011.
• Aven now owns the largest private collection of Russian art.
