- Jose Maria Aristrain is the former owner of steelmaker Arcelor, which was acquired by Mittal Steel in 2006 for nearly $34 billion in cash and stock.
- He is now believed to own a 2% stake of ArcelorMittal, among the world's largest steel companies.
- He owns about 11% of Spain's Tubacex, the second-largest global manufacturer of seamless stainless steel tubes.
- Aristrain inherited the business conglomerate when he was 24 years old, after his father, also named Jose Maria Aristrain, died in 1986 in a helicopter crash on the Cote d'Azur.
- Aristrain was accused of tax evasion in Spain and faced 40 years in prison, but he maintained his innocence and the Court of Madrid acquitted him in January 2022.
