- George Bishop founded oil and gas producer GeoSouthern Energy in 1981.
- In one of the biggest scores of the oil boom, GeoSouthern sold its south Texas fields to Devon Energy in 2013 for $6 billion.
- In 2015, Bishop redeployed some capital into a shale natural gas play in Louisiana, in a JV with Blackstone Credit called GEP Haynesville.
