Biography

• George Bishop founded oil and gas producer GeoSouthern Energy in 1981.
• In one of the biggest scores of the oil boom, GeoSouthern sold its south Texas fields to Devon Energy in 2013 for $6 billion.
• In 2015, Bishop redeployed some capital into a shale natural gas play in Louisiana, in a JV with Blackstone Credit called GEP Haynesville.
• He sold his stake in GEP Haynesville in 2021, when Southwestern Energy acquired the company for $1.85 billion.
• In 2021 he also launched GEP Haynesville II, a joint venture with Williams Companies, also focused on the Haynesville shale in Louisiana.
• Bishop reportedly owns Chub Cay, a 29-room resort in the Bahamas with a yacht marina that can accommodate up to 160 yachts.
• Bishop endowed the George H. Bishop Scholarship in Geology at Mississippi State University, where he graduated in 1958 with a degree in petroleum geology.
• Bishop's GeoSouthern Energy was one of the first companies to invest in the Eagle Ford shale in south Texas, one of the largest natural gas plays in the U.S.
