- Chen Dongsheng is the founder and chairman of Taikang Insurance Group, one of China's largest insurers.
- Taikang also has interests in asset management as well as health and elderly care.
- Chen's wife is the granddaughter of Mao Zedong, the communist revolutionary who became the founding father of the People's Republic of China.
- Early in his career, Chen worked as deputy editor of Management World, a publication of the Development Research Center of China's State Council.
