Biography

  • Carlos Eduardo M. Scripilliti is an heir to the Votorantim empire, one of Brazil's largest and oldest conglomerates with interests in aluminum, pulp and paper, energy, agriculture and cement.
  • He is the third generation member of the family business which was started by his grandfather, Jose Ermirio de Moraes, in 1918.
  • Today, the group, which traces its roots to a textile factory in Sao Paulo, operates in 20 countries.
  • Scripilliti's siblings, Clóvis Ermírio de Moraes and Regina Helena S. Velloso, are also billionaires; the trio inherited their fortune from their mother Maria Helena Moraes Scripilliti.
  • Scripilliti's uncle, Antonio Ermirio ran to become governor of Sao Paulo, Brazil's richest state. He did not win. He died in 2014.
