- Anatoly Skurov's fortune stems from the sale of his stakes in coal producer Sibuglemet and fertilizer maker Uralkali, which is traded in Moscow.
- He is a former designer of Soviet machine-building factories and worked for the state-owned coal producer Rosugol, where he took part in the reform of the Russian coal industry.
- In 1995, with Vladimir Melnichenko and Valentin Bukhtoyarov, both former billionaires, he founded the coal producer Sibuglemet.
